ETECSA commercializes 3G Internet in cell phones since December 2018. In October 2019, they added 4G/LTE.

To activate the mobile data you need to know a few things:

  • You must have a cell phone that connects to 3G on the 900Hz band and 4G on the 1800Hz band. In phones sold by international companies, this detail needs to be reviewed, because companies often restrict the spectrum of bands on the phone.

  • You need to activate the APN Nauta. Users in Cuba who use Nauta mail already have it activated (see instructions for Android and iOS). If you don't have Nauta mail, activate the APN and use the data network to access free sites like etecsa.cu

How to activate Cubacel's Internet?

If you meet these requirements, you are very close to using Whatsapp in Cuba 😉

Just dial  *133#
In the menu, you have two options to purchase mobile data, Data or Plans (Data + Voice + SMS).

Activate Internet Data

Option Data

Either of these options allows you to use messaging apps and surf the web, but it's good to keep in mind that buying LTE packages is much cheaper.

Remember: Option 4 LTE Packs are only available to 4G users.

Option Plans (Data + Voice + SMS)

This offer has become the preferred one for 4G network users, with cheaper prices in relation to the amount of megabytes / gigabytes purchased.

Mixed plans have also become more popular with 3G-only users, who add this option to the Pay-as-you-go and Mailbag as the only ones available to them in Data.
