Nauta Hogar: Everything you need to know about home WiFi internet in Cuba

At the end of 2016, Nauta Hogar emerged as the first service that allowed Cubans to have home internet after many years of public demand. According to the latest figure published by official sources in December 2024, there are 290,000 homes in Cuba with the Nauta Hogar service, which represents 7.5% of all households on the island.

If you live in a place with technical possibility to hire the Internet, you have to receive a call from the Commercial Office of ETECSA. This communication is the first step to have Internet at home.

In addition, you need to have a landline telephone service and a telephone pair with the technical conditions that allow establishing a link for data transmission and the use of the service.

The price of the initial installation is 250 CUP, and the necessary accessory kit has a value of 475 CUP. To this cost are added the prices of the monthly packages stipulated by ETECSA.

This system has a gift of 300 CUP for new customers. That means that if you hire the cheapest 1 megabit plan, the first month will be free. And if you buy a more expensive package, that amount will be discounted in your first month.

Once the monthly time has elapsed, the user has the opportunity to extend their hours following this rate: 12.50 CUP the pre-paid time in their Nauta account.

Pay monthly at ETECSA, via Transfermóvil, EnZona, or using your Nauta account (can be recharged from abroad or with a prepaid coupon).

Important: This payment is made in the Nauta User Portal, from home and without queuing at the ETECSA Commercial Office.

In recent years, Etecsa has launched other Nauta options that allow unlimited internet access with different speeds, but they are paid for in U.S. dollars.

In August 2022, Etecsa introduced Nauta Plus. This option allows users to connect through the Nauta Hogar service, Wi-Fi zones, or navigation rooms throughout the entire day with no time or schedule limits.

This offer is paid in USD through international distributors or with USD cards via the MiTransfer Wallet in the Transfermóvil app.

Nauta Plus Plans:

Users can have as many Nauta Plus accounts as they wish. Once a plan expires, the account is deleted and cannot be recharged.

At the end of 2024, Etecsa launched Nauta Hogar Plus, which is also only available in U.S. dollars and can be purchased exclusively through international distributors. Unlike the CUP-based version, this Plus version offers unlimited internet access using the same Nauta account already linked to the service.

Nauta Hogar Plus provides internet at various speeds, ranging from 2 Mbps to 10 Mbps. These speeds are not fixed and depend primarily on whether the telephone line can support them. We recommend calling 118 to check if your landline supports the desired speed before purchasing.

Nauta Hogar Plus Plans:

Nauta Hogar Plus is valid for 30 days from the moment of purchase. It is available through international distributors, and there is no limit on how many times it can be purchased. Additionally, the Nauta account can still be used in public WiFi zones, although the purchased speed is not guaranteed in those areas.

The number of hours hired are NOT cumulative from one month to another.
