Mobile data prices and offers in Cuba have evolved quite a bit since Etecsa introduced the country’s first mobile internet plans back in December 2018. The most recent major update came in May 2025, when the state-owned telecom company rolled out new data plans available in both Cuban pesos (CUP) and U.S. dollars (USD). At the same time, a new limit was introduced: Cubans can now only add up to 360 CUP to their main balance every 30 days.
In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to know about mobile data in Cuba, from the types of plans available to how to recharge your balance and check your usage.
Ways to Buy Mobile Data Plans in Cuba
Etecsa currently offers a range of data plans. On the more affordable end are the ones you can buy directly with your mobile balance, such as the combined data plans and the plan for ToDus and Nauta apps. On the pricier side are the extra data plans (in both pesos and dollars), which can’t be purchased using your phone balance and generally aren’t worth it due to their high cost and low value.
Here’s a breakdown of the main options to buy data plans in Cuba:
Combined Data Plans
Extra Data Plans in Cuban Pesos
Extra Data Plans in U.S. Dollars
Plan for ToDus and Nauta Apps
Let’s look at each in more detail.
1. Etecsa Data Plans
These packages include mobile data, voice minutes, and text messages. They work on both 3G and 4G networks and are valid for 35 days from the first time you use them.
120 CUP Plan: 2 GB + 15 minutes + 20 SMS
240 CUP Plan: 4 GB + 35 minutes + 40 SMS
240 CUP Data-Only Plan: 4.5 GB
360 CUP Plan: 6 GB + 60 minutes + 70 SMS
These are the best-value options—you can pay for them using your main balance, and they’re relatively affordable.
*Each Etecsa plan also includes 300 MB of extra data for browsing Cuban websites (those ending in “.cu”).
2. Extra Data Plans in Cuban Pesos
These plans are also priced in CUP but are much more expensive. They only include mobile data and cannot be purchased using your mobile balance. Instead, you’ll need to use one of these methods:
Transfermóvil
MiTransfer Wallet
Servicios en Línea app
Visiting an Etecsa office in person
Here are the available options:
3,360 CUP Plan: 3 GB
6,720 CUP Plan: 7 GB
11,760 CUP Plan: 15 GB
*Each plan includes 300 MB for browsing Cuban websites.
3. Extra Data Plans in U.S. Dollars (USD)
Like the extra CUP plans, these can’t be purchased with your phone balance either. To get one, you’ll need to pay using the MiTransfer Wallet or visit an Etecsa office with an international payment card.
$10 USD Plan: 4 GB
$20 USD Plan: 8 GB + 75 minutes + 80 SMS
$35 USD Plan: 16 GB
*All include 300 MB for browsing local Cuban websites.
Important: All data plans expire 35 days after first use. If you don’t use up all your data, minutes, or texts, they’ll roll over as long as you buy another plan before the current one expires.
4. Plan for ToDus and Nauta Apps
This plan is specifically for Cuba’s ToDus messaging app and Nauta email service. Both platforms only support local communication and have very limited active users.
ToDus & Nauta Plan: 600 MB for 25 CUP
5. Pay-As-You-Go Option
While the pay-as-you-go rate is more expensive than Etecsa’s data plans, it could be a good option if you only go online occasionally. The current rate is 0.50 CUP per MB for international browsing.

How to Recharge a Mobile Balance in Cuba
Right now, there are three ways to recharge a Cuban mobile line and access the more affordable combined data plans.
Recharge Methods:
National Recharge from within Cuba in CUP
Balance Transfers eetween Cuban phones
International Recharges
Here’s how each works:
1. National Recharges from Cuba
Mobile lines in Cuba can receive up to 360 CUP every 30 days through national recharges. This cap only applies to balance added through top-ups in Cuban pesos—not to international recharges or balance transfers.
Keep in mind: There’s no limit on how many data plans you can buy, just on how much balance you can add to your cell phone via national recharges.
2. Balance Transfers Between Cuban Phones
Etecsa allows up to three transfers per day, each with a maximum of 500,000 CUP. Each transfer costs 5 CUP, deducted from the sender’s main balance.
3. International Recharges
International top-ups to Cubacel remain unchanged. These can add money directly to a mobile balance or send a combined data plan.
They’re sent from abroad, and Cubacel typically runs two promotions per month, which may offer extra data or multiply the value of the recharge.
