ETECSA has been offering 3G internet on mobile phones since December 2018. In October 2019, it added the 4G/LTE network. Years later, in May 2025, it introduced a new shift in mobile phone and data services in Cuba. The island’s only telecommunications company announced changes to the pricing system for combined plans and launched “extra plans.” Check out the latest guide to mobile data plans, prices, and how to use them. To activate mobile data, you need to know the following:
Your phone must support 3G on the 900 MHz band and 4G on the 1800 MHz band. Phones sold by international carriers may have band restrictions.
You need to activate the Nauta APN. Users in Cuba with a Nauta email already have it set up (check the instructions for Android and iOS). If you don’t have a Nauta email, activate the APN and use the data network to access a free site like etecsa.cu.
How to activate Cubacel's Internet?
If you meet the above requirements and you have main balance available, you’re almost ready to use WhatsApp in Cuba. 😉
Just dial *133#
In the menu, you have the option Data:
Four options will appear (all of them, except for Plan toDus, will allow you to use messaging apps and browse on 2G, 3G, or 4G networks), of which the most recommended is option 4 Plans:
Option Plans (Data + Voice + SMS)
These plans offer packages that include megabytes, minutes, and SMS. They can be used on 4G, 3G, or 2G.
